Known for its spectacular July wildflower display and scenic beauty, this sculpted glacial basin is one of the most photographed areas in the San Juan Mountain Range.  At 11,600’ the American Basin Trailhead is one of two routes that accesses Handies Peak (14,048’).  This trail to Handies is one of the easiest routes up a 14er in Colorado!
