Artist Arthur Lopez Santa Fe Studio
Arthur López, born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is among the finest santero artists working in the proud heritage of northern New Mexico Wood Carver.
His traditional bultos,(3- dimensional carved representations of the saints) for which he has received numerous awards are exhibited at Santa Fe's annual Spanish Market, are avidly sought by museums and private collectors. Equally important to Lopez is his need to transcend the bounds of the traditional santero, and use his art as a medium for expressing the full range of his culture and the world around him.
Lopez has exhibited in numerous shows throughout the Southwest and his work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, NM; Museum Of Spanish Colonial Art, Santa Fe; Albuquerque Art Museum, Albuquerque, NM; Taylor Museum Colorado Fine Arts Center, Colorado Springs, CO; Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO; The Harwood Museum of Art, Taos, NM; El Museo Convento, Española, NM; Freedom Museum (911 Memorial at Ground Zero), New York, NY; St. Nicholas Center, Holland, MI and many others. His work is published in 100 Artists of the Southwest by Douglas Bullis, Schiffer Publishing, On Collecting: From Private to Public. Featuring the Diane and Sandy Besser Collection, University of Washington Press, La Herencia, "Saints and Seasons," by Ana Pacheco. He is represented by Parks Gallery, Taos, NM; and Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe.
