A glimpse of the Box Canon Falls

The Box Canon Falls is a developed wildlife viewing and waterfall area within easy walking distance of downtown Ouray, Colorado. Within the park Canyon Creek drops behind a rock face and emerges far below in a unique and dramatic waterfall. A steel walkway, anchored to the cliff face, allows access directly to the falls for best viewing. Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, pine martin, an occasional black bear, and numerous species of birds are frequently viewed within the park. A colony of Black Swifts nests along the rock ledges near the waterfalls every summer season. Maintained trails and interpretive signage guide visitors to the falls, with benches provided in many locations for viewing wildlife and other great scenery.

Best Time for Viewing: Early morning and early evening are the best times for viewing wildlife and the waterfall.

Best Months and Seasons for Viewing: The park is open all year, but the trails are most accessible from May through October.

 ADA Accessibility Notes
The Box Canon Falls Nature Center building is ADA accessible, with interpretive exhibits, concessions, a small gift shop, and public restrooms. The trails into the falls do not currently meet ADA standards.

 Pet Friendly Notes
Because the Box Canon Falls is a wildlife viewing area pets are not allowed within the park.
