Located in Saguache County in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, with the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountains facing us in the east, and the San Juan mountains to the west, Chokurei Ranch is a sustainably operated farm and ranch.  Our company goals are to raise happy and healthy food, to protect our land and water, to utilize renewable energy to completely power the Ranch, and to assist other communities with raising their own food.  We offer agritours with over 100 majestic Tibetan Yak grazing our native pastures, and we also raise chickens, turkeys, ducks, goats and pigs...so far!  The hub of our Ranch is a 6500 square foot greenhouse, fed by an artesian spring of geothermal heated water.  This provides the basic nourishment for our variety of growing produce and vegetables, year round.  Our primary focus this past season has been developing and producing a wide array of organically raised vegetables and produce outdoors.  We will also be opening a new retail business to market our farm production by February, 2011.  Truly, a one-of-a-kind experience!

Chokurei Ranch offers volunteer and work exchange opportunities to help us work the land, in the production of our happy and healthy foods, while experiencing first hand how we do it.   Our long term goal is to provide enhanced educational opportunities around the small scale sustainable production of food.  We are always very happy to meet enthusiastic people who share our vision and passion, and are truly interested in where their food comes from and how it was raised.  Our main goal is to provide a healthy, nourishing and diverse food source for our local community.  The work is hard, but it is very gratifying if you are into eating very well from your own bioregion!  We also offer Tibetan Yak tours, where you can enjoy these magnificent animals from our unique tour vehicle!

Chokurei Ranch raises all of its plants and animals organically, with no commercial pesticides or chemicals.  Our simple goal is to maintain the incredible beauty of this place, just as it was when we received it.  We practice and promote environmental education and stewardship.  The Ranch also practices resource conservation in many ways, and is home to abundant wildlife, including bald eagles and golden eagles, hawk, elk, deer, pronghorn, badger, and more.  Chokurei Ranch is located within view of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, a very unique ecosystem in this high alpine valley.  We are also located close to the Old Spanish Trail, within the newly designated San Luis Valley Heritage Area, another local historical landmark of interest.   

Pets are welcome, with a leash or under the constant supervision of the owner.  Remember, this is a farm with lots of animals, too!
