Cabin Rental, Fly Fishing, Guide Service on the Rio Costilla.  Cottonwood Meadow Ranch is a 70 Acre ranch located in Amalia, New Mexico on the Rio Costilla.  Nestled between mountains in the Sangre de Cristo range, you see a picturesque view of cottonwoods, wildlife and farm animals.  The river offers a variety of trout with two main species, which include Rio Grande Cut-throats and Cutbows.  We offer cabin rental on the river, trout fishing, tours of the ranch and goat products.

Cottonwood Meadow Ranch has two 725 square foot cabins on the river.  The cabins are located in a secluded area within a hundred feet of the river.  Walk out onto the covered front porch and enjoy the view of the local mountain range, regional plants and wildlife.  Each cabin will accommodate up to 4 adults or 2 adults and up to 4 children.  Included within the living space are a full kitchen, living/sleeping area and bathroom with shower.

Season Open: Year round but spring, summer and fall are the best seasons.

Private  fly fishing is offered on the one mile of the Rio Cossilla, which runs through the property(Catch and release).  Guide service is available to assist you, both on the ranch and for trips to local areas.  We offer a $50.00 discount on guide fees for those who stay here and utilize our local guide, Aurelio Corso, who offers 40 years of experience.  He has been fishing the Rio Costilla for the past six years and is very knowledgeable of the local streams in the area, including the Ponil and Commanche.

Rate Range: $135.00-$165.00

We are located 45 miles north of Taos, NM off Highway 522.  East onto State road 196 (right at the Shamrock gas stations in Costilla).  4 miles to the Cottonwood Meadow Ranch, look for the  red barn and sign at mile marker 412.

Jim and Sheree Jarrell were both born and raised in Texas, but have been visiting the area for many years.  They decided to move to their favorite place four years ago and have completely renovated the ranch house and lands.  Their goat herd has grown to almost 80 and they continue to expand the types of animals living on the ranch.

The ranch is home to a variety of  animals including goats, sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, rabbits and a parrot.  Come and visit them all.  We are glad to give tours and if you are staying at the ranch you have access to visiting the crew on a daily basis.  We are happy to let you assist with milking, feeding and snacks

Cheese and soap making classes may be arranged.  Seasonal gardens are available for you to visit and harvest  for your personal use in meal preparation.
