Name of Person: Floyd Archuleta

Floyd grew up in the small village of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. His ancestors settled in Arroyo Seco in the early 1800’s and began growing crops for their farms. Floyd continues to carry on the tradition of ranching, as his father Jose Manuel Archuleta still does at the age of 95.

Floyd is now an entrepreneur and an emerging artist who is inspired by real experiences and memories of ranch operation such as cattle drives, round-ups, hay raising, and irrigation. His art includes oil painting, recycled wire sculpture, carving and metal art.

Floyd created the Des Montes Art Gallery in 2010 that represents the work of many local folk artists in the area. The grounds provide a venue for a seasonal outdoor produce market held every Wednesday during the summer. His mission is to promote and encourage local gardens in the Des Montes area. His father, Jose Manuel, is honored in the logo called “El Irrigador”, designed for the Des Montes Art Gallery.

The gallery is a journey through time and place, rich in history, culture, art and custom. Floyd’s passion and vision is to record the story of his own ancestors through various media bringing it into the 21st century before it is lost.
