El Cafecito Restaurant, Grants NM
The locally-owned El Cafecito Restaurant has been a fixture in Grants for more than two decades. Known to all as "El Caf," the restaurant is a gathering place for the whole east end of Grants. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner from a predominantly New Mexican menu.
El Cafecito is on East Santa Fe Avenue in Grants, which happens to be part of Historic Route 66. The old highway extends both east and west from Grants, paralleling I-40 at a saner speed, and El Cafecito has become as popular with Old 66 travelers as it is with long-time locals.
El Cafecito has been so popular for so many years, that a brand new, larger restaurant has just been constructed! The larger El Cafecito restaurant is now open, including a seperate meeting room, as of January 2011.
The bright, open, tile-floored dining room stays busy all day, with local families and professionals just a table away from hungry travelers just in from the highway. New Mexican breakfast specialties include huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, or egg dishes, giving way at 11 AM to chicken enchiladas, chile rellenos, and stuffed sopaipillas as well as a variety of burgers. The meals are large and inexpensive. There is no alcohol served. El Caf also has a drive-up window.
Hours Open: Mon-Fri 7 AM to 9 PM; Saturday 7 AM to 8 PM, Closed Sunday
Seasons Open: Year-round
Price Style for this Establishment: Inexpensive
The owners, Larry and Angela Baca, have operated El Cafecito for more than twenty years; there is always more than one generation of the Bacas on hand, keeping things hopping throughout the day! Their hard work and friendly approach are paying off as their completely new, more spacious building has just opened in Jamuary 2011.
Ground floor access and open floor plan.
