Hinsdale County Museum

The Hinsdale County Museum is located in the Finley Block Building.  The Museum offers unique exhibits and displays honoring the heritage of mining, ranching, homesteading, immigrants, tourism, railroads, and frontier life in Lake City and Hinsdale County.  Volunteer docents staff the Museum during the summer months and also lead interpretive walks, talks, presentations, ghost tours, cemetery tours, a Victorian High Tea, and participate in the annual Lake City History Month in August.  More information can be found online at www.lakecitymuseum.com

Located in a historic building, the original owner – Henry Finley – was instrumental in many early Lake City business ventures.  The stonewalls of both the Finley Block and Stone Bank Block were built simultaneously in June 1877 and are  almost identical with segmented arch windows, exaggerated keystones, finely detailed corners, and similar woodwork.  The Finley Block has housed general merchandise store, a hardware, grocery, tinsmith, and the Dago Brothers Saloon which catered primarily to Italian miners and their families.
