John Wesley Powell  won the reputation of  genuine folk hero for his adventures on the Colorado River before it was tamed by the dam and reservoir that today  bears his name.  This museum preserves the history and artifacts of this adventurer.  Within the museum, you can see sketches, photos, and other memorabilia of Powell's epic  voyages in 1869 and 1871 .  Other exhibits focus on the geology of the canyons cut by the Colorado and the history and development of Page.  Films on Lake Powell, dam construction and other subjects are shown free upon request.

The museum's Visitor Information Center serves as a reservation agent for river and lake trips, scenic flights, ground tours to Antelope Canyon and Alstrom Point as well as powerboat and houseboat rentals and a visitors guide to accomodations in the Page area.
