Situated near the community of Amalia in the Rio Costilla Valley with mountains to the north and south, MW Bar Ranch offers comfortable and graciously appointed guest rooms in a log home. MW Bar Ranch is 50 miles north of Taos not far from the Colorado stare line. The 8,400 foot elevation means the nights are cool and days are typically a pleasant 80 degrees during summer months. Just to the east, Costilla Peak rises nearly 13,000 feet, the second highest peak in New Mexico. The Valle Vidal, sometimes called the Yellowstone of New Mexico is just eight miles up the road. The drive is spectacular as you follow the river through a box canyon where you might catch a glimpse of a Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep if you're lucky. Valle Vidal boasts one of the largest elk herds in New Mexico. Mule deer, turkeys, cougars and bears are also found there. The 100,000 acres comprising the Valle Vidal offers great hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities. Cutthroat trout are found in the streams and Shuree Pond.

MW Bar Ranch has two spacious guest rooms with private baths in the main lodge. The North Room overlooks the river and the adjacent meadow. This room has a queen bed and features handmade southwestern furniture, original art, and cozy bed linens. The South Room has two twin beds and has a view of ancient cottonwoods and a horse pasture. Furnished with handmade furniture, antiques and original art, this rooms offers the feeling of the past with today's comforts. A separate cabin has a queen bed and a pullout sofa bed. It has a private bath, full kitchen, sun room, and a seating area. Handmade furniture and original art accent the cabin decor

The owners are retired and live full-time on the ranch. They are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and will help you with suggestions for activities or itineraries, favorite fishing spots, or great hiking areas. They will prepare your breakfast and can accommodate most special needs

MW Bar Ranch is the closest accommodation to the Valle Vidal. Outdoor activities are abundant in the area. They include hiking, fly fishing, bird and wildlife viewing. The local community consists of small farms and ranches along the river valley.
