National Night Out, a unique crime and prevention sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), it takes place each year on the First Tuesday in August.  This year, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.   Previous National Night Out events have involved citizens, our local law enforcement, neighborhood crime watch groups and local businesses along with our local officials from the City of Aztec. The events are designed to:

1.       Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

2.       Generate support for and participation, in local anticrime programs;

3.       Strengthen neighborhood and local business spirit; and

4.       Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Participating in National Night Out is an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program that promotes neighborhood and local business spirit and police-community partnerships in our efforts in maintain a safe community.  It is a great way to meet your neighbors and local businesses and enjoy some good food, games, entertainment and become familiar with members of our local police department.  Our event ended at 7:00 p.m. and we then encouraged all of our neighborhood citizens and local businesses to display outdoor lights and front porch vigils until 9:00 p.m. to ensure the criminals are aware of our fight against crimes.

Our 2010 National Night Out event last year was such a huge success, we had over 60 local businesses that participated by setting up a booth.  They were able to showcase their business to our citizens.  Our local businesses are also watching out for each other to insure that crime will not be tolerated.   Approximately 500 citizens participated in our event which took place at our beautiful Minium Park.  We held various activities, contests and games, one of which was our famous donut eating contest.  We had 30 contestants including our Police Chief, School Resource Officer and our City Manager. We had wonderful sponsors from our community to help make this a huge success.  A parade will be added to this year to make this event bigger and better!

Come and join us in visiting our beautiful City of Aztec and help us send a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods and local business in the City of Aztec will not tolerate crime.
