Since 1981, the Red Rock Balloon Rally has been enchanting balloonists and observers at Red Rock Park in Gallup, New Mexico the first weekend of December. The event has grown to include over 200 hot air balloons magically filling the skies above the canyons of the park. The event hosts 3 morning flights and 2 evening balloon glows. One of the event favorites is held Friday evening with Native American Dancers performing around a cedar-wood bonfire while colorful hot air balloons provide a glowing background reflected off the brilliant red canyon walls of Red Rock Park. For more information go to Spectators are encouraged to mingle among the balloons; the adventurous may sign up to help crew/chase a balloon team. RV camping is available on a reservation basis at Red Rock Park. This event is one of the most scenic and picturesque balloon events in the southwest, with colorful balloons contrasted against brilliant red rocks and green cedar and pinon pines - particularly scenic if there is snow on the ground, and blue skies! It is also one of the balloonists favorite events, as they are able to test there skills, dipping in and out of scenic red rock canyons, and around the scenic pinnacles of Pyramid Rock and Church Rock - often hovering along the edge of the brilliant red cliffs.
