Saint Michael Indian School

Saint Michael Indian School was founded in 1902 by Mother Katherine Drexel of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.

The school is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. It is a member of the National Catholic Education Association and the Diocese of Gallup Catholic School System.

The faculty at SMIS is recruited from across the United States and from the Navajo Nation. This gives the school a rich diversity of talent and expertise to share with the students. Seventy-five percent of the faculty members hold a Masters Degree.

Rosita Martin wrote on January 05, 2016: You may speak to anyone about the school. Sister Kathleen has not been employed at the school for years! The school has a website with a whole listing of people currently employed with the school who may help you.

a former teacher at SMIS wrote on February 01, 2015: I agree completely with Michael Williams about the spelling of the school name! I do have a question tho' why is Sr. Kathleen Kajer still listed as the contact person? She hasn't been the contact person at the school for more than a year.

Michael Williams wrote on March 07, 2013: I appreciate that "Michael" is spelled correctly on photo captions 6, 8, and 10. It reflects well on the educational mission
