Sipesonian Institute
The Sipesonian Institute “Where art meets the road” On highway 160 halfway between Mancos and Mesa Verde. Don’t miss the studio, gallery and sculpture garden of Dave Sipe power sculptor and mixed media artist. His works are extremely creative and unique in selected native and exotic wood using power tools for efficiency and spontaneity. Power sculpture has been his profession for more than twenty five years as a visual as well as performance artist. He won the world championship chainsaw competition in 1989 and placed in the top 10 sculptors at various competitions for almost a decade. His style and subjects range from folk to finer, abstract to animals, political and social statements both serious and humorous. Much of his work is whimsical. Some pieces feature the natural wood coloring and others are colored with polychrome finishes. The Sipesonian Institute is located at a 100 yr old historic homestead and is more than just a roadside attraction with a large selection of work inside the gallery as well as along the road. See Dave in action on utube at southoffunny.com/ Dave Sipe. Be sure to stop at the Sipesonian institute “where dead trees are born again.”
