Trail Stewardship Old Spanish National Historic Trail

The Old Spanish Trail Association (OSTA) in cooperation with Old Spanish National Historic Trail Adminstrators, the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management, coordinates a program for citizen scientists and historians to locate physical traces of the Old Spanish National Historic Trail and to monitor the condition of the Trail corridor. Trail Stewards attend a two day workshop which emphasizes protection of archeological and historic resources and documenting condition of these resources through use of GPS locators and digital photography. Once training is completed and Trail Stewards sign a Volunteer Agreement requiring adherence to site protection standards and confidentiality of location of fragile archeological resources, they are assigned to field projects to work in pairs or larger groupings under OSTA and BLM supervision.
