Wild Rivers Expeditions is a small, quality-oriented company located in Bluff, Utah.  The company runs one to ten day river trips on the San Juan River in southeast Utah, in addition to occasional international expeditions.  Founded in 1957, Wild Rivers trips are unique in that they focus on interpreting the rivers geologic, human and natural histories as you travel through the canyon.

Their outstanding staff of caring, professional guides specialize in interpreting the river's exquisite Ancestral Puebloan culture and textbook geology; your safety and the quality of your experience are their foremost concerns.  Wild Rivers takes people of all ages, interests and abilities to explore the San Juan River. It is an experience that meets the diverse interests of kids who want to play in the mud as well as seasoned photographers, and those of us who can use a little bit of time relaxing in the shade of a Cottonwood tree next to a desert river.

Areas of Service and Expertise

The San Juan River, as it incises through the heart of the Colorado Plateau, evokes wonder, beauty and solitude like few places on earth. Its aesthetic has inspired the West's finest authors and artists.  Its natural, geologic and human histories have endlessly indulged people from all walks of life. And the river's serenity has made return visitors of the most traveled wilderness enthusiasts.

Located near Monument Valley in Bluff, Utah, Wild Rivers Expeditions is the first and foremost San Juan River outfitter specializing in quality, learning, kindness and fun.

Types of Experiences and Trips Provided

With trips running March through October, and an uncommon flexibility due to knowledge of the river corridor and local operations, Wild Rivers Expeditions can take you to explore the canyons of the San Juan River in the manner that best fits your travel itenerary.  Whether it be a one day trip or a multiple day excursion, you'll see and visit rock art and ruins, experience astounding geology, and observe several species of local wildlife like Desert Bighorn Sheep, Great Blue Herons, hawks, eagles, and an occasional Beaver.

 Eco-Friendly Notes

In 2007 Wild Rivers Expeditions started an on-site organic garden in partnership with their neighbor, the San Juan River Kitchen. The project has grown to include a 1/2 acre garden which is home to over 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables that depend on composted materials from river trips and manure from local farming families. Waste from trips and property operations is used to raise a pig annually in an exploration of the significance of food. During the growing season 40-60 percent of the produce that is sent out on river trips comes from the garden.

joseph and janice day wrote on January 27, 2011: we have the choice of either hauling all the equipment and boat up to bluff or hauling all the grandkids up to bluff because we can't do both. as a result, we've been running the san juan with wild rivers for 20 years on both single and multi-day trips with first our children and now our grandchildren. wild rivers expeditions guides are professional, knowledgeable, and have made every trip educational and, more importantly, fun. whether it's geology, ruins, wildlife, photography, or just plain fun, the guides at wild rivers make every trip memorable. we start taking our grandchildren on the san juan when they're 6 and we've been down the river with teenagers and folks in their 80s and, without exception, everyone has a safe and wonderful time. you've got to like a family activity where even teenagers love it! we highly recommend a trip down the river with wild rivers expeditions.
