Wild Rivers Recreation Area

 
Confluence of the Red River and the Rio Grande
 

This high plateau north of Taos, NM, overlooks the dramatic confluence of the "wild and scenic" Red River and Rio Grande nearly 1000 feet below. There are bike trails plus the Wild Rivers Back Country Byway on the plateau and trail access to the rivers below for camping, fly fishing, and steep but rewarding hikes. The Visitor Center has facilities, books and information. Weekday use is very low and provides great opportunities for solitude plus one of the greatest views in the state.

Recreational Opportunities

Camping, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, wildlife viewing, scenic driving, bird watching, wildlife viewing.

 

Seasons Accessible

Open year around, best in late spring and early fall. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends tend to be the busiest.

Fees: Only for camping
